Franklin Mountains State Park, the largest urban park in the United States, provides opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, and stunning panoramic views of the city. Mt. Cristo Rey
McNutt Rd, Sunland Park, NM
A 4.4-mile round trip with an 820 elevation gain, this trail is for moderate hikers and leashed dog-friendly. The rewarding view at the end under the limestone monument makes for incredible photos.

El Paso is the only City in Texas with a mountain range through the middle, making it a hiker's dream. With too many trails to list, here are three suggestions for each level.
  • The North Franklin Mountain Peak Trail: This challenging trail leads to the summit of the Franklin Mountains, offering stunning views of the City and surrounding desert.
  • The Mundy's Gap Trail: This moderate trail winds through the mountains, passing by scenic overlooks and rock formations.
  • The Tom Mays Trail: This easy trail is perfect for a stroll, offering views of the City and the Rio Grande.
 
Ascarate Park

Ascarate is a 400-acre park in the middle of the City featuring a golf course, a stocked lake for fishing (with a state license!), walking trails, playgrounds, and more. Frequently hosting fun runs and family-friendly events, this park has something for everyone.
 
McKelligon Canyon

The Canyon is a paved road that is an easy walk in the cool morning. This path also serves as access to various rock climbing and hiking spots. 
 
Memorial Park

In one of the City's older neighborhoods, this park is nestled in the middle of stunning historic homes. The park features lighted tennis courts, a playground, large grassy areas, and a unique view across the City and into Juarez. It is an excellent spot for gatherings or just a scenic walk around the perimeter. 
 
El Paso Municipal Rose Garden
3418 Aurora Ave, El Paso, TX 79930
This stunning garden boasts 500 rose varieties spanning 4 acres. Accented with koi ponds and waterfalls, this is a beautiful stroll for all ages and abilities. 
 
Scenic Drive
The road closes on Sunday with access points for bicycles and pedestrians and is accessible at Rim Rd. and Wheeling Dr. This is the ultimate view of the City with a viewing point mid-way down the road. If you're not a biker, cruise the road in your car any night of the week! 

LOCAL TIP:  Ascarate Park is a hidden gem in the middle of the city! The lake has a trail all the way around for a fun family fall walk and so many fun events year-round.

LOCAL TIP:  There is nothing more beautiful than the Franklin Mountains. I love to hike to the Tin Mines on the North Franklin Mountain Trail. It is an incredible piece of our local history.

FUN FACT:   The Sun City Music Festival, held at Ascarate Park, is a two-day event of EDM music, lights and dancing in the streets with big names like David Guetta, Tiesto and Martin Garrix.
