The Cohens knew when they came to The Hill Country/ Boerne to visit in 2020 that they had to call it home. From that first stroll down Main Street, it was full steam ahead aligning the stars to make their move happen as soon as possible. It took two and a half years, but here they are, with their extended family by their side, living that small town, Hill Country dream.

Travis and Dani both grew up in Santa Clarita, a Southern California suburb where Travis was a
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Deputy and Dani worked as a Board Certified
Behavior Analyst with autistic children. They met 14 years ago over a game of beer pong (let it
be known: they are still an undefeated team!), and have been married since 2012.

Travis and Dani are “Mom and Dad” to Parker, almost 9, and Hayden, almost 7. Although the
grown-ups knew right away their hearts were in Boerne, it was a harder sale getting the kids on
board with a huge move. Deeply rooted in their schools, friendships, and sports, it was
important to the Cohen family to waste no time getting the kids involved in sports and making
friends in Boerne. Parker enjoys playing baseball at Boerne Little League, and soccer at
Boerne Soccer Club. Hayden is involved with gymnastics and attends classes at Boerne
Gymnastics Center.

Always having a passion for fitness, Travis and Dani have been avid CrossFitters since 2018
and CrossFit coaches since shortly thereafter. They had a pipe dream to open up a CrossFit
gym of their own when they moved to Boerne. “I remember the moment I walked into to Hill
Country CrossFit for the first time,” recalls Dani. “I’ve been to a lot of gyms and there was
something almost intangible that made HCCFIT unique. It was like this familial blanket just
wrapped itself around you and, for an hour every day, we were home even though we were
thousands of miles from home.”

As God would have it, six months later Travis and Dani were presented with the opportunity to
purchase the gym. In partnership with the Rivera and Martinez families, and alongside a
wonderful team of coaches, the Cohens dove head-first into their passion and purpose. When
they’re not working their “day jobs” or running the kiddos around to practices, they are
coaching and taking classes at Hill Country CrossFit off John’s Road and I-10. Dani’s favorite
class to coach: Adaptive CrossFit - an adapted class for athletes with cognitive and
developmental divergency, emphasizing functional strength and mobility, coordination, and
fluency of movement, with a message of inclusivity for ALL athletes.

The Cohens don't spend all their time at the gym! One of the things that pulled the family
toward Boerne was its charm. “It’s crazy how you can walk down Main Street, or along the
creek, multiple times a week for almost a year and still feel like you’re on vacation every time,”
comments Travis.

“Our perfect day in Boerne would start with a run along the creek, then breakfast at Boerne
Grill - in the window, with a view of the quaint little shops,” says Dani. “We’d for sure have to
take the kids to The Boerne Bookshop. That’s their favorite place in town! Then we’d grab an
iced latte at The Dienger or a beer at Free Roam. Then we’d go for a drive out on Ammann
Road out to Parker’s Ice Cream in Fair Oaks Ranch and take in the rolling pastures of the Hill
Country. Then we’d either have a date night on the deck at The Richter or get the whole fam to
chow down on some barbecue at Black Board Bar B Q in Sisterdale!”

Though leaving the town they were born and raised in was a massive transition for the Cohens,
they have never once doubted their decision. “Boerne is really special. The ‘southern charm’ is
real, and most everyone we’ve encountered has welcomed us with arms wide open.” They
have no doubt that any new families to Boerne will experience the same thing. “Our only regret
is that we didn’t move our family to Boerne years ago!”
