Where do I FIT(ness) in?
How to find the perfect placed to continue your Fitness Journey
Choosing the right gym is the first step to starting your fitness journey. To help avoid purchasing a membership that you never use, it is essential that you and your family select an environment that makes you feel comfortable, inspired, supported and most importantly, motivated. However, in a sea of gyms that seem to be popping up on every corner, where do you start? If you’re new to the area or searching for another gym, here are things to look for when choosing a gym.
The first thing to think about when searching for a new gym is whether will it be convenient for me and my family. The location of your gym should be right around the corner from your job or home. If you travel 30 minutes or more to and from your gym, you are more likely to lose interest and skip your workout. Keep it simple with a gym that is close by.
In addition to location, you may also want to think about family memberships. One of the reasons that adults and kids don’t workout is because finding the time during the day while juggling busy work and game schedules is no easy task. Finding an “all in one” fitness center that caters to both adults and kids is the perfect way for your whole family to work out at the same time and place while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
When choosing a gym, make sure you surround yourself around a quality group of coaches and personal trainers. Coaches are there to help you reach your goals while holding you accountable when you really don’t want to work out. Additionally, your coach should know how to write a program, give advice on weight selection, teach proper form on all strength movements, and push you to be better!
When you step into a new gym, you want to make sure there is enough cardio and strength equipment i.e. treadmills, bikes, rowers, racks, barbells, sleds to push, boxes, bands, medicine balls, etc. Additionally, you want to know they offer group classes, so you can work out with your friends. You want to have options, especially if you’re new to working out and don’t really know what you like yet.
My advice is to go check out the gym at the time you plan to work out. That way, you can see if it’s crowded and which machines or equipment are most popular. You can also see the environment at that time and ask yourself, “Can I see myself working out here?”
All in all, looking for a new gym will have everything to do with the environment and the community of people that make up the gym. You want to surround yourself around people and coaches that motivate you to reach your goals and feel better in your everyday life.
