discover our roots on the South Shore

Trip Advisor gives local historian and tour guide Leo Martin's walking tours high ratings - just make sure you make reservations ahead to “Discover Plymouth’s History" at The Jenney.
Besides serving as the birthplace of many fine ships – and the site of quite a few shipwrecks – Scituate was once a hub for harvesting Irish moss, a grueling and demanding labor that only waned in the 1990s. Delve deeply into Scituate's unique history at the Maritime and Mossing Museum then make your way south, to Plimoth Rock and Plimoth Plantation where eager historians can’t wait to show artifacts and share tales of our colonial roots. In fact, each town has a unique story to tell. The King Caesar House in Duxbury is a treasure, built for the distinguished shipbuilder Ezra Watson II and preserved as it was in 1820, the museum preserves the memory of Duxbury's prosperous shipbuilding days. Search each town’s historical society sites to find the many antique homes open for exploration as well as the fine art galleries that house their valuable collections alongside the works of the many artists that choose to call the South Shore home.
